I saw this woman at the Metro at the ticket booth who was knitting away with a huge knitting ball. She was an elderly lady who was in the uniform inside a glass workspace in the middle of a public space. Usually, they are really busy with people who line up to buy the metro (subway) tickets from them. Today was a Sunday and perhaps not so busy. I wanted to knock on her sound proof glass and ask if I could take a picture of her.

I was hesitant..but determined. I walked up to an arm’s reach of the glass. Stopped. Turned around and walked away. I don’t know what happened and I was rather pissed at myself as I sat down in a coffee shop to get a cup of warm caramel macchiato (sp?). Maybe it had something to do with getting shouted at by a Metro official once regarding the fines that are imposed on photography in the underground.

Sigh.

Only slightly north of the main station.
Above the entrance the plaque reads NORDHAUSEN WERNIGERODER UND BROCKEN EISENBAHN.
To the left, between the windows ILFELD BENNECKENSTEIN. To the right ALEXISBAD GERNRODE
Apparently it is now a shopping arcade without ticketing services. The roof and windows have been replaced and the Nordhausen Nord Deutsche Reichsbahn sign removed.

Oakwood is a London Underground station on the Piccadilly Line. It is the second most northerly station, between Southgate and Cockfosters stations.

The station opened on 13 March 1933 as part of the Cockfosters extension.

The station building is a fine example of the architecture Charles Holden built for the Piccadilly Line extensions, with a large and imposing box-shaped ticket hall surrounded by lower structures containing shops.

The station is similar to Holden’s slightly earlier designs for Sudbury Town and Acton Town stations at the western end of Piccadilly Line. Oakwood Station is a Grade II listed building.
